New Jersey’s environmental records are public, but the state’s own tools make you search them one record at a time — by case number, program interest ID, or a facility name spelled exactly the way the file has it. This lookup flips that: type the address the way you say it, pick the autocomplete suggestion, and every NJDEP case around that point appears on one map — contaminated sites, registered underground storage tanks, cleanup case files for the property itself, dry cleaners and gas stations, groundwater restrictions, PFAS dischargers. Free, and each record links into NJDEP’s own document system so you read the state’s file, not a summary.
Ordinary home heating-oil tanks are mostly not in the state UST registry — a clean tank result here doesn’t rule one out on an older house. And a case near an address is context about the neighborhood, not a finding about that property: most cleanups are contained to the source site, and each record here says explicitly when contamination reached groundwater or produced a vapor or well impact. When a lookup layer doesn’t answer, the row says “Unavailable” — nothing is guessed.
